I know this is random, but my love and appreciation for Candace T. and C. Sturdi has grown tremendously over these past few months. These girls are everything! I can count on them for pretty much anything, they never let me down. C. Sturdi’s drive and work ethic never ceases to amaze me. This girl can do it all! And if not, she will definitely figure it out. She’s a go getter, don’t expect her to sit around and wait for you to do anything for her. I love that! And Candace T. has what it takes to brighten up a room whenever she walks in. She is classy, confident and one of the most sincere individuals I have ever met. She has taught me a lot and is always there to talk whenever I have something random on my mind.
Aaaahhh I think I need to stop now, before a tear drops lol.
But yeah, I am honored to call these gals friends and for them being in my life, enriching it on a daily basis whether they know it or not. Now they do!
Ok thats enough for this rant here…
Peace & Blessings,

Earlier this month, The CirKiss Girls had the pleasure to attend a show full of talent & we wanted to be sure to share the wealth with our fellow CirKiss Lifers!
The show was created & hosted by the wonderful Richard Russ, who is the creator of Reformed Society (@tunein2thespin), based in Annapolis, Md.
There was a total of 8 acts, who were competing to win a 1st place prize of $100, a photo shoot, AND a 5 minute live radio interview with Brandon Jones from Self Made Magazine Radio (deepflowradio.com)! The 2nd place prize was $75, and the 3rd place prize was $50.
To open the show, an energy filled marching band got the crowd hyped as they put on a show. It took me back to my undergrad days at NC A&T!
Then the acts were ready to go on stage. During our backstage interviews, everyone was excited to grace the stage, despite a little bit of nerves. We met some great performers, here are a few of them:
Kaoz, a rapping/singing duo hailing from Northeast DC were in the building. Tonio, age 19 and Marvin, age 17 have been producing their own music for over 5 years. These young and talented musicians have a mixtape out named ‘Hunger Bigger Than Da Beast’ which can be downloaded on datpiff.com (for free!). You can also check them out on Youtube (Kaoz Productions) or follow them on Twitter @KaozProductions. Kaoz were the winners of the Viewers Choice award of the evening!
Dream Ent., a talented group of young men from Annapolis, MD were there to perform along with Kid Mill, age 20. Kid Mill has been rapping for about 4 years and gets his inspiration from Kanye West. All he wants to do is “create good music.” This talent show was Kid Mill’s first ever live performance! He def put on a great show. His mixtape, titled ‘God Bless’ can be downloaded on hotnewhiphop.com. Follow him on Twitter @therealkidmill! Kid Mill was the 2nd place winner of the show!
Allie Marie, a 21 year old singer/guitarist from Crofton, MD was there to perform her original songs. Allie Marie sings everything from broadway to jazz to pop. She has been writing songs from a very young age, since she learned how to write. Allie Marie told the CirKiss girls that she just wants to “touch people with my voice.” She can be found on Facebook at Allie Marie Music! Allie Marie took home the 3rd place prize!
Gentleman Apollo, a 25 year old singer/guitarist was there to perform his original work, which he categorizes as “indie soul.” The UMUC graduate is also a film-maker and wants to start an Indie Rock band in the near future. Apollo mentioned to us with confidence that he is a “renaissance man” because he has a number of talents. He can be reached on Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter all under the name Apollo Michaels. Check him out!
The female rapping duo Double Impact ages 15 and 16 got the crowd rockin with their original songs ‘Turnt Up’ and ‘No Mercy’. They can be found on Facebook at Double Impact Music!
We also got a chance to meet Michael Catlatte’, a 23 year old Jamaica native. Even though he was hoarse, he still blew the crowd away with his beautiful vocals. The busy Michael is a student at Morgan State and has a singing group named Michael Catlatte & Substance. You can check him out on Youtube at Michael Catlatte’!
There were a few more great acts that we were unable to catch up with
Nonetheless, we had a really great time at Anne Arundel Community College that Saturday night.
Be sure to check out the recap vid of the show and show love to the great performers that were mentioned!
Peace & Blessings,

In honor of me starting my first ever internship position (and because @Don_Diva11 suggested it), I wanted to give a quick rundown about what you should wear on your first day to duty!
Reflecting back on when I started my job 5 years ago, I remember how I was very nervous & obsessing over what I should wear. Here’s what I suggest to get you through that exciting first day:
As you know, workplaces vary. It truly depends on the culture of your internship site as to how you should be dressing. Do your research! Ask whoever you have been in contact with about the dress code. Think about what type of work you are gonna be getting into. Keep in mind the type of people you are going to be working with. Are you going to be working directly with clients or consumers? What kind of impression do you want to give? It seems like a lot to consider, but it’s really not!
Your appearance is very important, especially during first encounters. You want to make sure that people do not get the wrong impression of you from day one.
On the first day, dress a tad more formally. When I started working 5 years ago, I came to work with a black blazer & slacks, a crisp button down blouse and some pumps. Boy was I shocked when I arrived. The workplace was more relaxed than I had expected. But I was glad that I did not come looking too laid back on the first day. I was able to get a feel of the place. That is what I recommend. Until you get a good sense of the workplace culture, dress it up!
We all know that too much of anything is never good (or do we?). Try to keep it simple when it comes to your clothing choices, perfume or cologne, and accessories. We don’t want your scent to be choking everyone in there while they are trying to work!
Ladies, if you decide to rock a skirt, please make sure that it is not too tight or too short! Those skirts you wear out to the clubs are not a good look! If you opt to wear slacks, just be sure they aren’t hugging everything you own. Keep it simple & classy. Also, don’t show up to your new internship with your cleavage revealed; keep your necklines a little higher than what you would wear after hours. The classic white button down shirt is always a good choice, as it is safe. As for your shoes, make sure they are comfortable & please do not wear excessively high heels! Once again, simple & classy!
Fellas, make sure your clothes are wrinkle free and clean! As the same with the ladies, a crisp white button down shirt is always nice along with a conservative tie. Try to go for a solid color or one with a subtle pattern. If you decide to wear a sports jacket, shoot for a solid black or navy one. Wear a clean pair of dress shoes, along with socks to match.
That wasn’t so hard was it? Good!
Now since it’s the first day on the job, you definitely want to come prepared. Be sure to carry a notepad and pens (and pencils if you prefer) so that you can take notes. You wanna be sure you jot down all of those important pieces of info that you will be receiving. You can carry all of these things in a nice brief case, handbag or laptop carry case or a solid color book bag.
Since you’re gonna be there a while, bring something to eat/drink! This will help with saving money, especially if your internship is unpaid like mine! Carry along some of your fave healthy snacks and you should be more than prepared to succeed!
Get plenty of rest the day/night before your big day. Take some time to re-review any information that was given out to you previously and just get mentally prepared for this new experience in life that you are about to embark on.
As I count down the minutes before I walk into my new workplace, I am feeling confident. I feel like I am more than prepared & I am ready for anything they might throw my way!
Remember, “when you look good, you feel good” and people will take notice to all of that!
Until we meet again,

#Falltrends, 2012, bracelets, Cardigans, dark colors, fall trends, floral prints, flowers, necklaces, scarves
Yes, floral prints were big this summer, but guess what? These flowers aren’t dying anytime soon! To keep this trend hot this upcoming season, choose from darker colored hues.
You could add a subtle touch to your look by adding a floral printed scarf to your outfit, or you could go all out and wear a floral printed dress or rock a bold floral printed blazer/cardigan.
And don’t think that clothes and accessories are the only things that can be covered in flowers! Doc Martens has a fun pair of combat boots with an all over floral print. Jewelry such as bracelets and necklaces are also fun in floral prints and can be added to accentuate any look this Fall. Pick your flower of choice and run with it!

ShaDonna Turner, 25, maximizes the meaning of ”work hard, play hard.” By day, she’s a dedicated government associate, by night she’s a party girl, enjoying life. ShaDonna loves to travel, meet new people, “do hoodrat things with [her] friends on the weekends” and spend money. Can we have some?? lol
Anyway, this girl does it all in style. Not to mention she’s utterly HILARIOUS. Check out her profile below and be sure to follow her on Twitter at @fancydonna.
1. Describe your personal style.
Comfortable! lol Not like your grandma orthopedic shoe comfort but wearing clothes that fit me comfortably and I can feel confident and secure in what I’m wearing. I hate to see girls (especially the chunkier ones like myself) in too small ill-fitting clothes that they visibly do not feel comfortable in. They look awkward and everyone can tell. I stand strongly behind the idea that “just because they make it in your size …” so I wear what fits me well. And whatever I think is cute.
I also like color, pink is my favorite. I love pastels. Stripes make me look smaller; I think.
… I try to stray away from animal prints; that can get cheesy quick and I already look like the black Snooki with my huge hair so I keep the cheetahs & zebra prints for phone cases and silly accessories like that.
2. What or who inspires your wardrobe selections?
Honestly, only I inspire me. I find it difficult to really look at magazines and stuff because I don’t see too many girls my size killing it. So I’ll try to remember what look I did for the last season and build off that. And I’m usually late with a trend. Like I’ll wait until all the hood rats in DC have killed it off and maybe pick it up later and make it classier.
3. What are your favorite stores to shop?
H&M, ASOS website and Nordstrom. H&M has not failed me yet. I love their stuff and the fact that I can still fit it after all these years! ASOS is great. Love their dresses even though I don’t wear dresses often but I always find stuff on there. Nordstrom – because it’s sort of a family business. I worked there for 5 years; my sister works there now, 4 of my cousins and a host of other close friends. Their discount is amazing and I just love the customer service.
4. Do you wear perfume? What is your favorite?
Yes I love smelling good! This older guy at my job is always sniffing me to see what fragrance I’m wearing. He’s a creep but the gesture is nice. My favorite evening fragrance is FANCY by Jessica Simpson. For day or night scents – I love Burberry Brit, Flower Bomb (before Wale wrote the song) and Daisy and Lola by Marc Jacobs.
5. What is your favorite article of clothing?
At the moment, it’s this cute little black skirt I pulled out my closet from like 3 years ago. I got it on clearance from banana republic and it finally served its purpose. It was a hit on IG when I paired it with a sheer off white top from H&M for the club. And my MCM satchel purse that I carry with everything. Got it 35% off from Bloomies during friends & family weekend. I love all things on sale

This season, the military inspired trend makes it way back around as it does every few years. Get ready to rock pieces with bold shoulders, structured silhouettes, and classic camo looks. Sport some olive greens, khakis, grays, and blues this fall along with some lace up boots for a look that’ll have you ready for war.
